Our Export Journey

Our journey to grow our export business began at a time of economic downturn, when COVID-19 had hit the world and specifically the global coffee sector was shaking. Uganda imposed travel restrictions and social distancing measures that lead to higher cost of production, while impacting employment and revenues generated in the coffee sector. Domestic consumption was affected through reduced consumer income and social distancing measures while exports was being affected by disruptions in international trade and reduced global demand of coffee. But amidst all these inconveniences our General Manager believed in a great philosophy of time: “Never wait for the right time because it will never come, don’t wait for tomorrow because it will be too late”. Our cooperative has been operating for seven years with support from partners, RSTC & NUCAFE to reach the export market. We believe we are able to continue to grow internationally. Of course, the business of exporting is not an easy one. As well as a wealth of opportunities, expansion abroad presents a number of risks. When you are putting in the work to guarantee business, you need to be sure that every choice is the right one for you and your future This long journey was inspired by the good quality coffee and the overwhelming numbers of our farmers who were committed to producing one of the finest coffees in the world and this helped to plot our path to overseas success. In a special way we appreciate the overwhelming support of our partners i.e. TDC Enabel, Ankole Coffee Producers Cooperative Union (ACPU), without them our journey would have not been possible. Mr John Nuwagaba the general manger ACPCU was our strongest pillar during this journey. His support went from collecting intelligence up to launching our international trade mission for the first time. Karangura Peak Coffee is now very proud and ready to expand our global export market. After learning that to run a successful cooperative society you need leaders with courage who can go out there and try. It may feel like there are too many barriers, but you can double or even triple your business if you extend beyond your comfort zone. Our small holder farmers are also proud and empowered for serving the markets all over the world that are asking for coffee directly from the farmer as it ensures a quality cup.
